The International Graphic Arts & Printing University is a virtual university which is divided into 6 departments & 2 faculties. This research and educational institution has been set up to work out solutions to international, environmental and economical problem which may be faced the publication and printing industry in 21 century.
This is an on-line university. Study is done over the INTERNET and E-mail.
This university has no campus. The research and educational activities are held
on the INTERNET and our results will be open to the world.
Each students level is decided according to the faculty. The faculty mainly
consists of scholars based in Japan, Korea, China, the U.S.A and Europe. The
university will be opened to enrollment from April 2000.
There will be interesting subjects for trainees to choose. In principle you
are requested to learn a basic course first.
There is not a tuition free. However, trainees will be required to pay in advance
for such expenses as administration and/or texts.
You can begin at any time. The course takes about 6 months to complete.
It is necessary for the trainee to submit their answers twice a month.
This university does not issue credits, but will foster real ability.

3. The On-line Education in Japan
As for the On-line education in Japan, Keio University began the remote education
from May, 2001 that can attend a lecture from whole country everywhere by using
the Internet.
The university builds the system that can attend MBA course, too, in 2004. (4)
Ministry of Education & Science of Japan is ready to reform remote education
the communication system according to the report of " the university council
" in June, 2000, and it aims at the form of the advanced education provision
that the master and the doctorate can be obtained.
This treats various information such as the character, the sound, the static
image, the video image overall for the Internet to utilize by the remote education
and the interactive conversation becomes necessary on the internet at the same
time.
Moreover, there are establishment of circumstances in the university education
where this is offered to across a border and get possible to attend Japanese
University Education abroad in future.

conventional text sending form.
The Sannou university has begun a general class and seminar as iNet Campus.
The print media teaching materials by the post become unnecessary because the
teaching materials is the Internet about WBT .
Therefore, the print of the textbook and the teaching materials decreases but
the content creating field and the Web development will become active.
The author carried forward the establishment preparation of the International
Graphic Arts & Printing University under these background.
4.Establishment of the International Graphic Arts &
Printing University
The concepts of establishment on the International Graphic Arts & Printing University
are as follows.
(1) The contribution to the development of the economy, the culture and the
society in the world that accompanies the globalization.
(2) The upbringing of the talented person prospecting IT age
(3) The cooperative promotion of the university and industry.
(4) The establishment of virtual education in the graphic arts and printing
division.
(5) The expansion of the graphic arts and printing department into the university
in the world.
The author investigated to have interchange with the Darmstadt Technical University,
Koln College of Polytechnics in Germany and Leiden University in Holland on
the occasion of Drupa 95 in May 1995, and discussed the trend of the virtual
education in the Chinese Culture University in Taiwan and the Chinese University
in Hongkong.
Moreover, in the international printing conference of September,1996, it was
possible to be interchanged with the Beijing Printing Academy and the Shanghai
Printing College.
The author have obtained the information about IT and Curriculum from RIT, Illinois
State University, Ferris State University and Murray State University. with
Chicago Print 97.
In October 1997, the International Conference on the Printing & Publishing History
was opened in Seoul and was conformed to construct archive of ancient printing
cultural heritage by world level. (7)
The archive became the basis in the virtual university.
The author have presented the recent printing technology of Japan in the meeting
0f Institute of the Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials and Korean Association
of Graphic Arts & Information Technology (KAGAIT), and then impressed the utilization
of Internet to the schoolchild level. (8)
In drupa 2000, author have established the basic investigation on the on-line
distance education through the interchange with British West Herts College and
Leipzig Printing Museum. (9)
On the other hand, Japan Association of Graphic Arts Education has been established
for introducing the fundamental concept on graphic arts education in 1985. (10)
Author had decided the establishment of the International Graphic Arts & Printing
University under such progress in April 2000.
The following preparation carried out (1) the establishment of the secretariat,(2)
institution of the regulations, (3) guest professor election, (4) faculty council
and the board of directions, (5) the establishment of two Faculty containing
six departments.
The International Graphic Arts & Printing University is a virtual university
have established in Japan for the first time in June 16 th , 2000.
The activity of the education and the research was started with the guest professors
and the administers.
The International Graphic Arts & Printing University consists of two Faculty
of the Graphic Arts and Faculty of the Communication.
The Faculty of the Graphic Arts makes main constitution of analog system, and
installs the Department of Printing Image History, the Printing Education and
the Image Reproduction.
The Faculty of the Communication by digital prospects consists of three Departments
of The Computer Processing, the Image Communication and the Printing Futurology.
These six departments are composed of the following subjects;
(1) The Department of The Printing Image History Printing History, Gutenberg
Study, Printing Museum
(2) The Department of The Printing Education Printing Education Theory, Distance
Learning for Printing, WBT(Web Based Training)
(3) The Department of The Image Reproduction Tone Reproduction, Color Reproduction,
Printability, Printing Management
(4) The Department of The Computer Processing Press & Prepress, DTP, On Demand
Printing, Work Flow, Color Management
(5) The Department of The Image Communication Network, Image Evaluation, Image
& Color System
(6) The Department of The Futurology Printing & Graphic Arts Industry, Future
of Digitalization, Prediction of Graphic Arts & Printing World
Moreover, The three basic subjects in the introduction for the entrance of International
Graphic Arts & Printing University are consisted of the Theory of Graphic Arts,
the Theory of Color Science, the Theory of Information Technology.
These basic subjects take up theme related to graphic arts and printing technology.
The guest professor is delivering the explanation and question by E-Mail. The
student delivers the answer after two weeks, and the professor corrects and
guides with the model answer.
There is the subject of research study. The theme and the abstract of the research
are summarized on the home page of International Graphic Arts & Printing University.
6. Conclusion
The student has the logic institution type and the feeling institution
type.
The professor must be established the teaching method corresponding to individual
needs.
It is important to raise the information and media literacy to make advances
year by year. International Graphic Arts & Printing University develops to be
always argument such as the syllabus exhibition on the subject, and then interchanges
with the related university.
The students and the professor about On-line Distance Education must be interactive
in a pair based on the computer technology and securing an intellectual request.
The establishment of International Graphic Arts & Printing University in April,2000
was the most suitable time in the graphic arts & printing department decreasing
& reducing environment in Japan
